New skater FAQ:

What are the benefits?

  • Be part of an inclusive, supportive community

  • Personal health gains

  • Fosters athletic mindset and confidence

  • Teaches you how to skate and be amazing

WHO CAN JOIN?

All skaters must be 18 or older, out of high school, and female-identifying.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE?

No. Roller derby is a physically demanding sport that requires speed, endurance, agility, strength, awareness and communication skills. The more in shape you are, the quicker you’re apt to pick up basic skating and derby skills, and the less likely you are to become injured.

That said, many of our skaters never played sports until they discovered roller derby and have grown to be remarkable athletes. Since we only practice 2-3 times a week, we encourage skaters to work out and cross-train outside of our regular practices in order to stay in shape.

WHAT DO I NEED?

  • Mouth guard

  • Quad skates only

  • Knee and elbow pads

  • Wrist guards

  • Dual-impact certfied Helmet.

See our gear guide for more information.
